Pichak Arman
Analytic psychotherapistMy perspective on the therapy room:
Over many years of psychoanalytic work, my view of the therapy room has changed and evolved considerably. The concept has never been static; like analysis itself, it is dynamic. Its meaning varies greatly from one person to another, depending on that person's existence and experience.
If I were to describe the therapy room in a way that applies to almost all clients, I would say this: it is a repaired version of the room in which each of us was once born, grew, and sometimes stopped growing. A room with clouded, dusty mirrors. My client and I, at a pace suited to their capacity, work to clear these sometimes cracked mirrors, so that we can move from the dead end of repetition toward a cycle that includes creativity, delight, enthusiasm, vitality, love, and freer breathing.
