My perspective on the therapy room:

The therapy room should be the safest place in the world: somewhere clients can be themselves, away from the usual masks that have sometimes been necessary to carry on with life. It feels like a home where one can find rest. Rest does not always mean keeping the turmoil of the inner and outer worlds away. It means providing a safe space where clients can face that turmoil and unrest, experience it as they do outside therapy, and then, with the therapist's help, find a way through it or toward acceptance.

Perhaps the therapy room is a dedicated space for practicing control over some parts of life while also practicing sitting with its painful, uncontrollable parts and letting go of the struggle to control everything.

It is a safe space for discovering ourselves and encountering both the dark and light aspects of our being, supported by a professional who works to keep that exploration on a helpful path.
